I absolutely adored both of these books. I loved the fact they were both character-driven, focused on women, family relationships, multi-generational spanning long periods of time and gave an insight into historical events such as war and famine. Also beautifully written and emotional.
Slightly different but I also recently enjoyed The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave, set in Norway in 1618 focusing on a community of women where witch trial accusations were made. It had queer and feminist themes which I loved.
