I’ve just read ‘the man from the future’ about John Von Neumann and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also enjoyed James Gleick’s ‘Chaos’. Both expertly combine all figures that played a role in a certain field or result. Another book that I really enjoyed was Thomas Kuhn’s ‘The structure of scientific discovery’. I’m not opposed to books with formulas and proofs like ‘God created the integers’ by Stephen Hawking, but a more relaxing read is preferred.
Any suggestions for a history of Mathematics?
Some historical figures I’m interested in: Gauss, Euler, any of the Bernoulli’s, Pascal. Some topics I’m interested in: calculus, fractals, morphogenesis, fluid dynamics, machine learning, evolution, algorithms, cellular automata, computer graphics, optimisation, pi (can anyone recommend the Borwein book?)
