I’m super active on this sub (posting this with an alt because of that) and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to ask OPs if they’re looking for fiction, nonfiction, or either. For example, someone will post that they’re going through a breakup or have depression and want a book to help them cope—are they looking for self-help or a novel with those themes? I’ve given up asking and now just skip those threads, and I imagine that a lot of other users do too, which is a shame.
Flair doesn’t need to be made mandatory, but those who want to add flair should have the option of something useful. The only current flair options are “suggestion thread,” which a lot of people actually add even though it doesn’t seem like it means anything (aren’t all threads in this sub suggestion threads?); “education related,” which idk the purpose of; and “trigger warning,” the only useful one even though it’s duplicative of the NSFW tag.
