I just unlocked some deeply hidden memory of loving this series as a kid- the [Guests Of War](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/392261/guests-of-war-by-kit-pearson/9780143183648) trilogy by Kit Pearson.
I was, probably like so many others, close with all my school librarians growing up and while we were restricted on what books were appropriate, I had an *”in”* so to speak, because of my extensive love for history and was allowed to take out “The Sky Is Falling” in early elementary. I literally binged the *fuck* out of this trilogy, and it was right up there with my love for the “Dear Canada” series.
I don’t remember it scene for scene, but it was a great intro for a child to understand what it was like coming to Canada, and why parents sent their children away to safer places during the crisis of World War 2. 1000000% recommended, even for adult reading- I can’t wait to hopefully read it again soon
