    Hi!

I’m currently a university student. I come home often during breaks. Currently, we’re on winter break, so I’m at home.

I find that during breaks, I’m able to read more. I usually go to the library at the start with my dad (in his 50s) and get a bunch of books and magazines (economist, Atlantic, nyt, nat geo etc.) to read over the course of break.

Every time, he expresses a lot of excitement and interest at the prospect of reading. He frequently says that he wants to get back into reading, and looks forward to the library visits as a way to get back into it.

However, he ends up not reading at all. This isn’t his fault—he works a full time job, spends a lot of time cooking and working out, and takes care of our dog and my younger sister. We have a similar value system—we’d rather walk the dog, exercise, or watch something together than read independently. It’s just that because I have fewer responsibilities, I’m able to also find time to read.

I tried to see if reading before sleeping was feasible for him, as it’s something that’s helped me get back into reading. Unfortunately, by the time he’s in the bedroom, he’s completely exhausted and feels like sleeping.

We’re both big podcast people, so I thought about trying audiobooks, but they aren’t the same.

I have a week before I have to go back to school bud really like to help my dad start reading again before then. Any tips? Thank you!

He has expressed that he doesn’t like sci-fi that much, and prefers realistic fiction/mystery/historical.
