I’m reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy, so certainly an emotionally troubling time. About halfway through, I find this passage:
“He thought each memory recalled must do some violence to its origins. As in a party game. Say the word and pass it on. So be sparing. What you alter in the remembering has yet a reality, known or not.”
I’ve had a rough year, and this passage coalesced so many feelings of loss, and even hope. I set down the book and just had to soak it in.
It made me curious, are there any quotes or passages that have made you stop in your tracks?
