Over the literal years I’ve spent searching for this book on and off, the thought of asking Reddit has occurred to me more than once but for once I’m giving in cause I cannot find this book for the life of me. the plot (very loosely) follows a man/boy who’s family was supposedly killed by a lord and as such he was raised by some man to be a spy with the sole mission of gaining this lords trust and eventually killing him. He finds his way into the lords army starts befriending the local samurai and falls in love with the princess whom he protects at one point in the novel from bandits on a mountain or smth (i should point out there might be some inaccuracies in this description) the protagonist gets his chance at killing his lord by the end of the book during a war of some sort however he couldn’t end up bringing himself to do it and was then explained to him that for whatever reason I don’t remember, the lord didn’t actually kill his family and his training was all false. When looking for this, I keep coming across across the nightingale floor, which IS NOT what I’m looking for. If anyone can actually find this for me I will be so happy haha, lemme know it this rings a bell and thanks in advance!
