I read **Fingersmith** a couple years ago, which threw me for a loop with its first twist. I enjoyed the writing style–are there any more modern day Dickensian writers out there for me to try? I always did enjoy his books… Thank you!

I’m going to suggest The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heap by HG Parry. Dickens characters come to life in modern day New Zealand. It’s much more fantasy adventure than what you get with Dickens, but knowing the characters and original stories will mean you get max fulfilment from the Dickens references.
