Have you ever read a book that smashed through the frozen layers within? Which books have served as your personal axe, cracking open new perspectives and emotions?

I’ll start first! “Poor” by Katriona O’Sullivan is a story of author’s quite extraordinary ascend from growing up in dire poverty, being pregnant and homeless at 15 to becoming a leading academic with a Psychology PhD from Trinity College in Dublin.

This book resonated with me so, so closely, with some scenes hitting… an uncomfortably familiar spot. I cried, I laughed, I admired author’s determination, grit and courage and then cried again.

And then I realised… I could try the same, and enrolled into a course which might result into a Bachelor level diploma in summer if things go well. I became serious about my hearing journey and for first time ever got into 1-on-1 therapy sessions.

This book was a lighter that sparked my own determination again.
