    Hello all!

I’m going through the shitter in terms of my mental health, very little distracts me from it – reading, however, is almost always a winner. Reading is a life-saver, quite literally.

Now, I’m autistic, which is only useful as a mention because I’m a great fan of a reread; I will literally read the same 30 or so books over and over and over, because I can trust them to give me what I’m looking for. Sometimes that might mean I reread books that are probably absolute trash, but – at least at some stage – they give/gave me comfort and an escape.

I like really gritty, dark novels with flowing prose and interesting characters; I enjoy bittersweet stories where there’s a lot of emotional upheaval. I like stories that are grounded in reality – not really a fantasy/sci-fi person, though dystopian novels which feel as if they could one day sincerely be a thing I find entertaining. I love decent, at-least-somewhat accurate and colourful historical novels. I like books which make me feel uncomfortable, books which prick at my mind for months after reading because they accessed parts of my brain which real life doesn’t. I also enjoy books which have an inevitable ending, but an unlikely way of getting there.

I also wouldn’t mind books which are romantic, meaningful and feel-good, as long as there’s some depth there which is paired with beautiful writing.

Gosh, this isn’t helpful at all. I don’t want to mention authors and books I already enjoy, because I’d like to have an entirely fresh perspective!

If there are any books you instinctively thought of whilst reading anything I just rambled about, just throw them here. 💛 I’ll try anything!
