I’ve read “All the Light We Cannot See” & “The Goldfinch”, which have both won the Pulitzer, & absolutely adored them:
The style of writing in “All the Light” flowed so differently from a lot of books I’ve read in the past, especially when it came to descriptions & imagery. I also loved how Doerr described the story when it was from Marie-Laure’s POV since she was blind & it challenged him to write as if he was too. It was definitely emotional (especially that one part, iykyk), & left me thinking about it for a long time after I finished it.
“Goldfinch” was such a rollercoaster of a journey that I read it in less than 3 days. The story of Theo & the painting itself was captivating, & how much a singular event in childhood can shape who you grow into as an adult, as well as how the guilt & terror of a single decision can follow you for years, was really well done that I know is not easy to do. I hope to read “The Dutch House” someday soon too (the cover & description have intrigued me).
What books that have won the award do you think deserved the win, didn’t deserve it, or was a finalist that should’ve gotten it instead?
