For years, I’ve spent way, WAY too much time browsing social media or streaming some show. Partly escapism, mostly habit. If I locked my phone in a box and buried the key in a graveyard today, I’d be out there with a shovel tonight.
So I was thinking, maybe I could replace my phone with an e-reader. It kind of looks like a phone. It glows. I can swipe. Maybe that would be enough to satisfy my brain?
That said, I love physical books. I love browsing Barnes and Noble, the weight of a book as I carry it home, the feel and whisper of pages as I turn them, the scratch of a pen as I annotate. If I’m reading, nothing can be all that bad. So when I look at my collection of books, it’s like being surrounded by friendly memories.
Whenever I go out, I bring a book with me and usually read it. The problem is mostly when I’m lounging at home.
I don’t want to give that up and waste money on an e-reader if it’s not going to benefit me. I know it’s not a magic solution, but I hope it could help.
Has anyone had the experience of spending less time on their phones after getting an e-reader?
