I read a book back in my middle school days (2015ish) that was a sci-fi fantasy teen fiction book. I don’t remember hardly anything about it, but I do remember that there was this boy who traveled around with a group of weird characters using a kind of mechanical wand that they would turn and twist to set the location. This would cause them to teleport instantaneously to whatever location, known as “winking”. That’s really all I can remember about it, but if I think of anything else, I’ll add it.
