I am looking for a fantasy series to get me back into reading. I’ve been all over the place and then took a break for a few months.
TLDR: Need suggestions for a fantasy series that has a great story, great characters, and engaging all or most of the way through
I’m wanting a series that has great characters that develop throughout, something that will keep my attention and not where I feel disengaged/having to “force” myself to read, twists are always a plus, and above all else, great story throughout the series
Below is a list of books/series I am considering, but am also open to recommendations.
If you have read more than one of the series, feel free to rank them in order of your enjoyment
* LOTR (Hobbit, LOTR, and possibly Simarillion). I read LOTR back in high school almost 20 years ago. I have been wanting to revisit it lately, including the Simarillion
* The Witcher – I read the first two “books” (short stories). Really liked them, but fell off for some reason
* The Wheel of Time – I enjoyed the show, especially the second season) and have heard the series and show are completely different. I read about 2/3 of the Eye of the Storm and also fell off
* Six of Crows – I watched Shadow and Bone. Didn’t mind the shower but loved the Six of Crows gang. Bummer when I heard the show was getting cancelled
* Riyria – Idk much about this series, but I’ve heard nothing but great things about the friendship between to two main characters. How’s the story?
* Brandon Sanderson standalone books from his Surprise Novels Kickstart. I have read “Tress of the Emerald Sea” and enjoyed most of it
**Not sure why I fall off, but it is mostly likely because of RL getting in the way, or because I lose interest, even if I’m liking what I’m reading at times (i.e. great story, but there’s unnecessary “fluff” for lack of a better word)
**However, I am willing to give all of what I have listed a try again
Thank you for your time if you read all the way!
