This book is a lesson on why you should read the genre and description of a book before purchasing it. I foolishly bought it without doing either of those things after reading a very strong first 40 pages which led me to believe that this book was going in a completely different direction.
Soon after the 40 pages, our main girl gets taken away from her awful family to the faerie realm by a beast. The beast is unsurprisingly an extremely handsome faerie in disguise. Now you avid book readers know where this is going as this book provides no surprises or deviations from the standard formula.
I’m sure this is a book teenage girls would love, I however am not a teenage girl.

lol I’m curious which way you thought the book was going to go
The first book may follow a formula (it’s a beauty and the beast retelling, loosely) but the series does not and has a lot of depth and attention to detail. It may not be your cup of tea, but I wouldn’t write it off as something with no surprises.
I’m fascinated to know what direction you thought a book called A Court of Thorns and Roses, which I’m pretty sure says the word “mate” like 12 times in the summary, was going to go in. XD
Look, I’ll admit I’m one of the ones who thought it wasn’t even good as a Romantasy, but seriously. Not knowing where it was going was on you. It’s very clear from outside and inside the book where it’s going.
