I’d like to read a good horror book that is scary and not gross. I’d also like it to be modern-ish. I like reading old stories, but I feel that many great classics are so great mainly when you consider the time when they were written and one of their main praises is how they withstood the test of time, and these two qualities are not what I’m looking for at the moment.
I want a horror story that just hooks you in and keeps you on your toes. I want to feel uncomfortable and want to put the book down because I’m uneasy with what might happen next, yet I also want to feel like the story is very well-written and is not just a collection of good ideas for scary moments. I’d like it to avoid cliches and I don’t want to see the plot twists coming from a mile away.
Ideally it’s 350 pages max and does not have any sequels.
I’m sorry if I’m being too specific. I’ve been trying to find a good horror story for a while and I’m surprised at how hard it’s been to scratch this itch. Thanks for the help guys!
