hey! i’m looking for a book with a confident/strong female protagonist that isn’t centered around beauty/romance. something coming of age would be appreciated 🙂 i’m thinking something similar to circe, a tree grows in brooklyn—fiction and nonfiction welcome. thanks in advance!

This would be sci-fi but check out The Rook
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series if you haven’t read it yet (though n.b. it does include violence)
Also consider the book The Accomplice by Lisa Lutz. There is a slight romantic storyline but it isn’t the main point.
Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg
Professor Dowell’s Head by Alexander Belyaev, about a young nurse who finds herself working for an insane surgeon
Literally anything written by Tamora Pierce. My favorite is The Protector of the Small quartet, but her books all have badass female heroines. Some of the books do have some romance (though not all) but it is no where near a major plot point in any of them.
