Do you know any books where we, people, learn to understand animals and/or plants and effectively communicate with them? And I mean not just anthropomorphism, but more like another sentient species. It brings so many different ethical questions that are worth exploring in a sci-fi novel.

I haven’t read it yet, but it’s been described to me as exactly like what you are looking for and has been on my TBR for awhile: Becoming Nature: Learning the Language of Wild Animals and Plants
The Mountain in the Sea is a newer book with beautiful writing and cover.
