I’m hoping to make some progress on a long quest to find other authors besides Stephen King whose books my mother might enjoy.
King being extremely popular, there are tons of recommendations for similar horror books and authors, but that isn’t quite what I’m looking for. My mother has said it’s not the wild freaky stories (often paired with with notoriously lackluster endings) that she enjoys, but that King’s writing style and how it just flows forward nicely. That is a fair bit trickier to pin down, so I’m casting my net here to narrow my search.
I’m open for suggestions on basically any kind of good novels with this kind of entertaining descriptive style and a good flow. Just maybe preferably more on the realistic side, as any heavy scifi or high fantasy unlikely to be a winner here. Some crime novels of Jo Nesbø have found success. Absolutely doesn’t have to be horror or even dark, just an enjoyable read
