Have you read a book that you found more enjoyable because it was challenging to read?

Last week I read Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. I found the story and characters to be reasonably enjoyable but I enjoyed the book much more than I would otherwise because Leckie only uses she/her pronouns for characters in the book. It took me about twice as long as usual to read it as I had to slow down and really focus on the characters to paint the scenes in my mind.
