I was chatting with my niece on social media and we exchanged books we were reading. She likes warrior cats and Wings of fire. I sent her a photo of. Ordeal by innocence by Agatha Christie which I am currently re reading. She put it on hold at the library! I told her it is too old but I would recommend her a good mystery.

Encyclopedia Brown is probably too young?

    1. The Curious Vanishing of Beatrice Willoughby by GZ Schmidt is a fun fantasy mystery middle grade novel.

What Happened to Rachel Riley? by Claire Swinarski is a realistic middle grade mystery with an interesting format.

Nancy Drew. All of them. I was probably about 10 when I started reading them, I love those books.

She might like the Enola Holmes series by Nancy Springer. Even if she’s watched the movies on Netflix, the books are quite different.

What about The 39 Clues series? It’s a lot of fun and I think it’s the right age range.

You might try almost anything by Lemony Snicket, but wanted to recommend *File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents* in particular. It’s thirteen little mysteries, with the solutions at the back of the book. Very Encyploedia Brown-ish, but with that bizarre Lemony Snicket humour. Definitely okay for a 10-year-old, or someone older, although far less challenging then.

    6. ‘The Secret History’ by Donna Tartt is a novel I recommend for its atmospheric and intellectual take on the mystery genre. The story of a group of classics students at an elite New England college who become entwined in a murder is both erudite and thrilling.

    7. So much good middle grade mystery out there! A few titles: Three Times Lucky, The Wig in the Window, Parker Inheritance, Ophie’s Ghosts, To Catch a Thief, Chasing Vermeer, The Harlem Charade, the Wells and Wong books, books by Catherine Carlson
