I want something with a brain behind the bloodsplatter. Like the yellow wallpaper or stepford wives, or get out. Bonus points for it to be a short and entertaining read with strong themes and a real life exploration of modern day fears especially through a sociological lens.

basically I want a book that can either be read academically or as a fun gutsy gorey murderfest

    1. ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ by Shirley Jackson is a book I suggest for anyone interested in the paranormal and psychological aspects of horror. Jackson’s eerie storytelling and the ambiguous nature of the haunting make it a sophisticated and bone-chilling read.
