I am looking for a book that goes into depth about scams of the 21st century (credit cards, computer cracking, call centers) and maybe insight into how the sector has evolved through the years. Something similar in mind would be Fooling Houdini by Alex Stone. It gives an insight into the bts and mechanics of the magic industry. Not really interested in books that just detail specific large-scale scams that have occurred. Thanks.

      – **Number Go Up** by Zeke Fox. Ok this one is not an overview of all scamming, but it is a fascinating overview of the world of cryptocurrency and NFTs and what makes blockchain assets so inviting to criminals of all stripes. I know you said no specific events, but this one covers a lot of different scams made possible by crypto.

      – **A History of Ambition in 50 Hoaxes** by Gail Eaton. This one goes back to the OG scammers, including the Trojan horse, and going through Ponzi schemes of today. I know you wanted modern but this book is really fascinating and does a really good job of pulling the common threads of each hoax together for a better comprehensive understanding of what makes scammers successful, while also illustrating just how darn creative humans can be when they really want something.

      – **Don’t Fall For It: A Short History of Financial Crimes** by Ben Carlson. Finally, one that meets your criteria lol. Very interesting and fast read.
