Looking for a book that’s a murder mystery but doesn’t have a lot or no references to rape or drugs. This is for a gift for my mother in law. She enjoyed 3 bodies burning which was about a muder case in Omaha. Thanks!
If you’re intrigued by historical mysteries, ‘The Alienist’ by Caleb Carr is a novel I often recommend. Set in 19th-century New York, the story follows a psychologist, or ‘alienist,’ and his team as they use emerging forensic methods to track a serial killer.

Maybe “People of Darkness” by Tony Hillerman? Normally I tell people to start with “Dance Hall of the Dead,” but that one has implications of both those things.
