I’m an amateur fiction writer. While I like my plots and characters and dialogue, I don’t feel very confident in my overall writing style. It feels clunky at times or I’m over describing things (a remnant of my fanfiction days 😂).
I lean toward horror and thriller books but I am willing to branch out to other fiction genres, especially comedy. I want to get an idea of how to write fluidly and keep a reader’s attention.

Ok, I know this is a bit of a jump in genres but Extraordinaries by T.J. Klune.
It’s YA, super heroes, but the writing style is top notch. And I thought about it because the MC of the book writes fan fiction and it’s amazing to see the differences between the passages that are fanfiction and the rest of the book. It showed me a lot of things about good writing I did not think about previously.
On the more thriller side, “I am not a serial killer” by Dan Wells. Really kept me glued to the pages!
I really love PG Wodehouse’s ability to craft dialogue. His banter is great. He’s a good one to read for dialogue with energy.
Daphne Du Maurier is an author whose work I feel has a good pull and she could craft kind of eerie vibes/ a sense of foreboding quite well.
