The title says most of it! I love fantasy, big fan of lord of the rings, but it’s definitely not a quick read in length OR style. I’m looking for something I could read in the length of a single ebook rental because I keep running out of time and having to return books before my busy self can finish them!!
I’m fine with anything age-wise from young adult novels all the way up through erotica (though that’s not explicitly what I’m looking for lol)
I adore worldbuilding, loveable/funny characters (extra points for LGBTQ rep), and good plot twists/unique plot ideas (not just ‘this ruler is corrupt and we need to take them down… with magic’).
Bonus points for anything relating to indigenous people (of any culture, and even as a side plot) but I know that one might be a stretch considering my other wants – so we’ll just call that a bonus 😉
Open to series or standalone books as long as each individual book isn’t super long/hard to get through.

I want to recomend A Natural History of Dragons, part one of the Memoirs of Lady Trent, by Marie Brennan.
Lovely characters (and more in later books), easily read, and it follows an aspiring dragon scientist travelling the world (different countries/places in most books) exploring and studying dragons and cultures.
The worldbuilding is fairly earth-like (Victorian era), and it’s intentional, but otherwise I feel it sounds pretty spot on for your request.
