Positive/enjoyable book for middle age man new to reading

What are some positive ending books from American literature for a new reader. I’m trying to start with books around 200 pages or less if American classics.

I’m working through “The Great Gatsby”. The problem is that and my next book “Death of a Salesman” seem depressing. Like the focus on the death of the American dream.

I appreciate the input. After I get the habit down for a few books I will try for bigger books. Thanks.
