I just finished reading A Christmas Story and promptly picked up the bigger collection of Jean Shepherd’s writing in the form of ‘In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash’.

But I want to add more books set in this era to my TBR pile, especially if they’re in any way similar to the lighthearted style that Shepherd’s stuff is in.

***A Tree Grows in Brooklyn*** **(1943, Fiction) by Betty Smith** – A classic novel that follows the coming-of-age story of a young girl, Francie Nolan, in Brooklyn during the early 20th century. Lots of cozy familial wisdom. Intimate, personable, hopeful. Solid story-telling, a great period piece, and a good feeling from reading it.
