My list of books I have read are not very long but maybe it will help? I am 27 and have collage education so I don’t mind “harder” books
-Battle Royale
-Twilight series
-Harry Potter
-The Bluest Eye
-The Hunt for the 7th (kinda looking for an adult version of this)
-It
-Kissed by an Angel and other books by her
-Sickened
-May Bird trilogy
As you can tell I fell off reading as a teen.

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
Check out the scholomance by Naomi novick, this is a brand new book series with the last book being released earlier this year and it is about a young girl going to magic school and literally everything there is trying to kill her. Also there is this dude who is a show off, lake, and a monster popped out of the eggs and he killed it and now there is monster Gore in the eggs and now nobody can have eggs, stupid lake, now breakfast is ruined for everybody.
Not quite so dark, there is a new series that completed early this year called the 9th house, there is this girl, Alex stern, who somehow managed to get into an ivy League school with a scholarship when really she barely graduated high school and barely escaped her own misery and now she is surrounded by trouble. She doesn’t like to listen to other people and she’s sort of likes to do her own thing. This one has an academia sort of like a secret Yale vibe so like a Harry Potter that is even more grown up.
Not quite as dark, but it has a brooding sense like somebody who is struggling to grow up, the magicians. There is this guy, quentin, his life feels incomplete and missing and he’s super smart and so bored and lonely and just pretty male adjusted but he gets to find magic and what do you know, magic doesn’t really fix much at all. Also, they are not the first people to go to the magical Narnia world, not at all, and there is some pretty awful stuff going on.
I’d like to recommend Miss peregrine’s home for wayward children I think it is called, it has a lighter reading level and keeps you going it also has some pictures as part of the book.
That was a lot of school books so I’d like to recommend another book that only has a little bit of school called that wayward children series, and I believe this starts with every heart doorway it is about kids who were spirited away, they get it to go to the magical land but now they are back. And they are waiting to go back home, to the magical land, where their parents aren’t.
The Paper Wasp, Lauren Acampora
Bastard Out of Carolina, Dorothy Allison
Little Eve, Catriona Ward
