This book series consists of 2 books: Nemesis is the first and Ally the second.
According to goodreads I started the first on May 6 and did finish it but it was a real struggle that I got through because I thought things would be better resolved in the second book.
Basically, the MC is the Daughter of an abusive Ruler from one Kingdom who escapes his captivity and tries to make her way to live lowly and simply in an opposing kingdom only to be kidnapped and bought as a concubine by the opposing Kingdoms rulers brother as a present for the Ruler.
There a lot of other stuff going on too to do with powers and the like but basically it’s working up like this new Ruler is framed in the story as her love interest and yet he is constantly dismissive of her and him and his brother laugh together about her being mad about having been bought as a sex slave no matter that the Ruler never used or wanted to use the harem.
I’m part way through the 2nd but I stopped reading it a while ago and don’t know if I want to continue though I hate leaving books unfinished.
The Ruler is also mad or confused because they liked each other but then he was gonna marry someone else for political reasons and just expected her to be OK with it and still be with him basically putting her back in the position of concubine that she hated. But when he found out she was the daughter of the king from the other kingdom he was all fine with calling off the other engagement and marrying her instead and still doesn’t get why she doesn’t like that.
On top of this she has this magic ability that is why her father kept her imprisoned for so he could take advantage of it and would abuse her when she refused.
And when the “love interest” found out she has this ability he immediately expected her to use it to him and his Kingdoms advantage.
The thing she has the ability to create is used as currency in their world and can also be weaponised and used as a kind of bomb.
She wants to save people and not have innocents killed by weapons created from her abilities just because the two Kings have beef.
If anyone has finished this series feel free to tell me how it ends. It currently seems super gross and misogynistic.
