A word that describes the sadness brought by the book but also by the fact that no one around you read it at the same time as you so you can’t really experience that feeling with someone else. Is there a word for that?

I just finished reading Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. If you’ve read it before, you know what I mean when I say I feel a deep sadness for what happened to Charlie. I wish I could hug him. I recommend the book if you’ve never read it. I don’t think any other book I’ve read has ever made me feel so sympathetic for the character. I think there’s a little bit of Charlie in all of us.
