Lions of Al-Rassan (based on the Reconquista) and A Song for Arbonne (based on the Albigensian Crusade), both by Guy Gavriel Kay. Not the traditional historical fiction where historical events are used literally. Basically all of Guy Gavriel Kay’s low fantasy books that are inspired by history is great to me, it feels like it’s real history since his prose seems to be taken from manuscripts of those periods he takes inspiration from.
