I’m an English teacher and have recently been asked to teach this and another book. The other book must obviously be similar in some way, and have enough points of similarity to work as a literary comparison. Some points of interest from the novel:
Character – cold, unfeeling, never find out anything internal;
Setting – an anonymous European city;
Themes – isolation, alienation, existentialism, death and fate
Narration – use of flashforwards; you know the ending before you get there
Genre – inverted detective story, a whydunnit
Preferably something short as well?
