I’m on chapter three. I found this book in the adult fiction section. I heard that it’s Dark Academia and after enjoying Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, I decided to read more from the same genre.

The writing feels too juvenile to be an adult fiction. It very much reads like a YA fiction. I actually feel that this writing style is very appropriate for YA.

The way the main character straight out introduces herself to the readers and about the school was very off putting. This is all information that the reader could infer on their own if it were written thoughtfully.

I feel like maybe it’s not YA is because the content might be too mature?

Should I bother sticking it out? Does this get better?

Plots can get thicker but I’m not sure writing styles can lol.

YA is 90% just marketing anyways. When I was a kid/teen the category didn’t exist and personally I think it worked better that way lol
