    1. Anything by Philip K. Dick – the guy was amazing. Just pick a novel by him randomly and you can’t go wrong. 🙂

    2. Blake Crouch’s man-on-the-run thriller **Dark Matter** cranks up in the first few pages. Sci-fi based. Written in first person therefore the reader is trying to figure out what is happening at the same rate the protagonist is.

    3. A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold. It’s part of a series but the author brings you up to speed on essential backstory without infodumping you into oblivion. It’s got SF, political intrigue, and humor in generous quantities.
