I kind of like dystopian/post-apocalyptic novels. With that being said, in the last 15 years we have been bombarded with these storylines in various TV series and movies, and a book like this does not get any points for originality or novelty.
I would have liked to see more character development as well as a story with more chronology. The writing is nothing special and lacks a pleasant prose, which I would have liked to see more of. There are the back stories of several characters told and they are loosely related, but does not seem to add much. I just find myself not caring about the characters much. The book is actually award winning, but I just failed to feel that magic of it.
Books I am planning on reading in the near future are Heart of a Dog, Scoop, and A Song of Achilles.” I just have to get through the last 50 pages of this which I have been putting off for a while now.

    1. I watched the series first, then read the book. I think this was extremely beneficial as I understood the characters quite well and could anticipate how their stories would go. The show did a much better job with pretty much all the characters, IMO.
