I’m looking for a Christmas gift for my girlfriend who is learning French. I’m hoping to find one with both English and French. Something good for someone who might need to sound out words here and there, something that has followable rhyming schemes. My first idea was The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire, but I get the impression it’s darker than is ideal for a Christmas gift. Thanks!

I read that Anatole France wrote with exceptional clarity (sorta like the prose of Hemingway in English). His poetry might be a good place to start for someone learning the language.
It’s also rather difficult for a beginner. I would suggest Prévert.
