Not really sure if my title makes sense, but I just finished reading The shades of magic series by VE Schwab, And while I overall enjoyed the series, especially the world building and system of magic, I felt like the main character had a bit of a “not like the other girls” attitude.
I’m not just looking for a book with a strong female lead, I would argue that shades of magic has a strong female lead, but in the series it’s notable that she’s strong because she’s a woman. E.g. murdering someone who tried to sexually assault her, being the only female to do a certain thing, surprise that a woman could fight that well, etc.
I guess I’m just tired of the world we live in and I would like to be able to read a book where there’s magic and adventure, but women can exist without being sexually harassed??? Or can be strong without it being a plot point that her strength is impressive for a girl.
I’ll accept non-magic recommendations as well! Let me know what y’all have read!

Maybe *This is How You Lose the Time War*? Or if you’re down for some spookies, *What Moves the Dead* by T Kingfisher
Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer
… I think. It’s been a second since I read it. Hope someone can corroborate?
