Okay so!! I’m not very deep into the thriller genre but so far I’ve found everything mid, which I kind of expected but I really want to find something I can give above 3.5 stars or so. I’ve read Pretty Girls which was twisty yes but I thought Slaughter’s writing was kinda bland and wanted more reasoning behind the crimes being committed? I also recently read The House Across the Lake by Sager (so disappointing) and The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (verrrrry lackluster but liked the atmosphere). The only other 2 have been Confessions (the writing was too bland for me) & The Last House on Needless Street (called the twist v early— also ig classified as horror but) and I also found them very mid 😭😭 idk maybe I’m just a hater but I just want TWISTSSSS that shock me but also have decent explanations behind them other than “he was just crazy so he did crazy things idk” or completely dumb tropes. I don’t mind over the top but it’s gotta really Go There. And I’ve also read every Gillian Flynn (years ago though) which I overall did enjoy, Dark Places maybe the least. Lmk if my expectations are too high or if you’ve got one you absolutely love but I’ve been on the hunt and can’t seem to zero in on a good one just yet!
