Hello everyone, I’m looking for books that showcase the gritty reality of New York City, akin to “Suicide Blonde” by Darcey Steinke or “Chelsea Girls” by Eileen Myles. You know the vibe I’m talking about. Any recommendations?
The crime novels of Andrew Vachss certainly fit this prompt. Trigger warning there’s a lot of fucked up shit like child abuse in these books. The protagonist is trying to help people out of difficult situations and has to navigate questionable people in order to succeed. I still think about _Strega_, which I believe was third in the series.
