Anybody knows about books of civilian people surviving wars or armed conflicts?

Im looking for books of people not being in any military faction but being civilians trying to avoid wars.

For example, It could be americans living in the US when World War 2 started trying to avoid draft or economic disasters that war created.

Also, books that talk about being on the warzone or possible target cities and how to avoid being caught in the fire.

It could be any kind of war or conflict. Just how to be prepared in all aspects and how to avoid danger in times of war.
