I am an avid reader (It’s mainly audiobooks these days since I find myself able to listen while working), as a former Infantryman that spent time in combat, I love reading of both historic battles and even some political/Chip War style books…

My problem is that I find myself losing interest in fiction books because I know it didn’t really happen and on the non-fiction side the monotonous repetition of dates and names puts me to sleep immediately! I have read hundreds of books so not looking for the standard list that is given to most new readers. I need to know what books you absolutely love (that fit into the sectors of Fire I’ve attempted to describe) that I may have not read. So no Art of War, books about Navy Seals, etc…I’ve not read as much books on pre -WW1 because I’ve struggled finding a book that was exciting AND detailed enough to keep my attention. (Yes I’ve read Killer Angel’s and enjoyed it)

I want to learn while also finding myself absorbed by the story ans finding myself on the field of battle beside them…I would love some suggestions from any genre, ancient rome, Revolutionary War, Civil War, anything newer or even books that lean towards the creation of America, stories from the British Empire, fictional books that are extremely accurate…

For me I want to learn about the individual soldiers and their units, tactics, and events of a battle or campaign.

Here are some of my favorites for examples:
-Marine Sniper (The reason I joined the military)
    -Gates of Fire (absolutely loved)
-Red Platoon (Have read several times!)
-WWZ (Loved how realistic it was and how it dove into the world of tactics)
    -All old Tom Clancy
-Relentless Strike (Factual but you don’t drown in words while reading if the battles)
    -All Peter Ziehan
-All the primary WW2 required reading biographies
