Something I can really sink my teeth into with themes regarding American consumerism, modernity, politics, and all that good stuff. Looking for all forms of literature including poetry, non-fiction, short stories, etc, but more in the mood for some fiction. Something other than The Great Gatsby please. thanks in advance !!

Hernan Diaz’s Trust won the Pulitzer Prize and is very much about the dirty secrets of the rich and trying to buy love and one’s legacy. I very much enjoyed it, though some readers have found the telling (multiple viewpoints that often contradict one another) to be somewhat cold and intellectual.
DeLillo’s White Noise captures 80s American culture.
You could check out anything by the Beat poets – Kerouac, etc.
If you are ok reading plays then Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. The Corrections by Jonathan Frantzen covers similar themes.
