No book will help, just spend time with him. As much as you can. That’s the only way to avoid regret.

Denis Johnson’s Largesse of the sea maiden. Collection of short stories about mortality. One of the best works about death and accepting it. It’ll stay with you.

Friend, this is a hard situation, but I don’t think you can read a book to change someone’s mind and heart.
If you’ve got a relationship, spend time with him and be sure you let him know you love him. If you’re both readers, though, why not suggest a book club situation together as a way for you guys to have discussions about a shared interest?
