Have you tried any classics ? Something like *Pride and Prejudice* or *Jane Eyre* ?

    2. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. By far my favourite. It is almost an anti-love story. The main character is a sweet little thing who marries a famously wealthy man whose wife had died. She moves into the house and immediately is accosted with all the belongings and memories of his late wife. There is mystery (Alfred Hitchcock did a great job of filming it) atmosphere and mooooooodiness

I’ve been reading Larry McMurtry’s Houston series. It’s not classic literature but the characters are writers or lit grad school students. If you want a sappy romance (not to say that is a bad thing) then these aren’t for you, the relationships are imperfect and messy but I love McMurtry’s slow Texas style.
