I find it so cool when the book matches your travel destination, i think it elevates both travel & reading experiences tenfold.
Last year, I went to Sri Lanka and was reading Arundhati Roy’s “The God of Small Things” while there. If you know, that book is mostly set in India so reading about the characters’ life unfolding in a setting very similar to my current surroundings made me feel immersed in the narrative in a very special way.
This year, I went to Nicaragua (for a surf trip) and was reading William Finnegan’s “Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life” while there. Finnegan’s memoir made for a brilliant trip companion, I couldn’t have asked for anything better! Highly recommend it even if you can’t care less for surfing.
Next year, I’ll be going to Argentina and Chile.
So I’m looking for that perfect book to read while there 🙂
Something that’s set in South America, a novel or a memoir. I love generational novels (think 100 Years of Solitude), psychological fiction, magical realism, travel & adventure inspired stories…
Thanks in advance for your reccos, r/booksuggestions <3
