I’m a big time Ishiguro fan and can’t for the life of me understand why his books are rated so low on Goodreads?

My hunch is that he doesn’t always go for the happy endings, not always a perfect resolution, and can leave someone unsettled but the books themselves are great works of literary art. It won’t end like some superhero movie with the good guys saving the world from the bad guys

    But am I missing something?

Also no spoilers on any of his books!

I’ve only read “Never let me go” but I really didn’t care for it. Enough so that I don’t want to read any of their other books. I thought it was odd and left me with an assortment of unanswered questions. I didn’t consider it a great work of art.

      Different strokes for different folks.

3.85 is pretty high for an average author score. 4.15 is a great rating (the rating for his second most popular book)

    3. Averaged ratings are a terrible metric. Books that do very well in their niche get low ratings from outsiders who pick it up with the wrong expectations. He writes beautiful, quiet character studies with no real action. He does what he does very well, but it is simply not something the typical reader is expecting or wants.

Dude has a booker and Nobel prize, do we really need to care about his Goodreads rating?

    5. I don’t use the site. Neither is their recommendation. But I guess people just don’t like to know the reality of life! It’s not always as good as shown in books and movies!
