When I was in school we were told to memorize formulas. Formulas were correct because they worked and thus were correct.
I want a book explaining mathematical concepts like numbers, algebra, geometry, etc, but it gives direct real life examples, possibly with pictures or illustrations. For example, when explaining geometry or a math formula it explains why it helps hold a bridge up or how it is directly applied irl.
So damn frustrating. I feel like I am so bad at math that I am basically become an anti-intellectual.

I don’t have any recs for teaching theory and concepts, but Flatland & The Mathematician’s Lament changed my relationship with math. Flatland is a short fiction piece about the life of a dot across different dimensions. The Mathematician’s Lament a discussion about how the methods we use to teach kids can sap the joy and creativity out of mathematics. Both are short reads that are easy to digest.
