She is mid 50s, she does not like smut, she loves a heart warming story, a character she can relate to, a simple fiction read that has nothing to do with fantasy and magic. One of her favorite books is remarkably bright creatures.
The All Girl’s Filling Station’s Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg. Sweet, heartwarming. The MC is a woman in her 60s struggling with an overbearing mom who still manages to be a good mom to her own kids. Lots of flashbacks to the wing walker airplane girls in the 40s. She will love it. My mom and I both did.

When I say I love Beartown by Fredrik Backman, Remarkably Bright Creatures is one of the most commonly recommended books so I assume the reverse works as well!
What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty would be good as well and is lighter than Beartown.

Remarkably Bright Creatures reminded me a lot of {{Anxious People by Frederik Backman}}. Both are funny books that reveal the humanity in people. I liked them both!
