Ok so I’m picturing a king’s or nobleman’s daughter who is long term friends with his squire or a soldier (or soldier’s son) who is around her age that she has known most of her life. They are either in a secret relationship already or have lots and lots of tension. She needs to be married off, but doesn’t want to leave him, etc.
this can be a subplot to a story as well. Doesn’t have to be the main story line. Would be a plus if there were some political intrigue or a war of some kind. Morally gray characters are a plus. I am a fan of grim dark, but not so much these super dark KU romances that have been coming out lately where consent isn’t easily defined. So not looking for straight smut or anything. It can even be YA. Currently reading the remnant chronicles and enjoying the romance, but I wish there was more build up.
ETA: a relationship like Valerie and Peter from red riding hood (2011) with Amanda Seyfried would be the kind of tension I’m looking for.
